BIOGRAPHY

Katherine Forest (麻羽墨 Yumo Má) was born and raised in Xi’an, China. She is an architect and currently based in Chicago, IL. She received her BFA degree from School of the Art Institute of Chicago (Chicago, IL) with a major in Architecture and minor in Art Therapy. She is currently pursuing a master's degree in architecture at the University of Southern California.

 

Her works of painting are focusing on exploring space and nature, as well as her reflection and exploration on philosophy and psychoanalysis.

 

She describes herself as an architect, a thinker, a storyteller, and a girl from the forest. The primary significance of painting for her is to express and explore her extremely complex emotions through the action of painting. At the same time, she hopes that the abstract shapes, gentle brushstrokes and creamy colors in her paintings can bring healing, spiritual comfort and relaxation to her audience.
